Big Rain Fills Swales

Nice rain last night!
its still coming down.

Each event is a new learning experience.

Strom 2: Dam, Swale and Spillway 1
Without the total catchment connected, the Dam filled to capacity over night, filled the Upper Swale and proceeded down the Spillway to the 2nd Swale.
Back roof gutters were clogged from drought leaves. The Porch Roof has yet to be connected. See the stakes from our test last month?

Strom 2: Dam, Swale and Spillway 2
Dam Outlet submerged and errosion sheeting blew off in the preceeding wind. Straw pilled up ahead of spillway cathcing sediment and floating mulch. Quack Grass and Clover holding well on top of spillway. The larger Upper Swale may be best way to store water beyond the pond so it travels farther, slower, later.

Top Spillway
Grasses holding but showing some errosion at bottom bare areas. Top area level but face is not flat, forcing the water to run and erode.
I must seed this ASAP. Add more straw. It is not watered as part of the berms, maybe should be to accelerate the growth.

2nd Swale
Almost full but would need much more to spill.
A great time for pulling weeds.
Previously floting mulch has been moved to the berm or trodden into the swale base.

Bottom Swale and collection pit
Far end of berm need height or it may fail before spillway pulls off the excess. Add 6+" more soil and seed.
Final pit is full from driveway alone. A Culvert is probably needed sooner than later.
It has higher water than the Swale. Could this be recycled to Top Pond?

Catchment Gutters and Pipe to Dam Area.
Not asthetically pleasing but pratical. I will modify it next summer.
