Out picking berries I find the fennel in the orchard is being eaten by
something.
Some plants are reduced to a central stem 18" long with no branches.
Most of the plants are flowering. Then I found caterpillars on them.
Usually two to a plant. One was eating the flowerettes and other seemed
to be still.
They reduce the plant to a vertical twig. The bug is 3/4 - 1 inch long,
yellow, black and white striped, thick as a pea.
I have seen them on milkweeds and have photos of them. Maybe since its
chilly out the wasps are not attending to the plants?
I hate to start squishing them. Maybe the birds will take care of them.
