Hot Summer, Good Yield
That was fast. Next phase of summer is upon us.
The Cherries are all gone. We picked, pitted and froze the last yesterday. All trees did very well after netting was added. I hope the rest of the summer is grow time. Its hard to tell when they are done but when you pull and the pit an stem stay on the tree, I think its a sign. Earlier netting next year except to wait for the birds to eat the insects. We have many seeds to share.
The Strawberries continue to produce large fruit. Collecting microscopic seeds.
The early ripening Service Berries fed more birds than us. but that will change next year.
The Red Currant are done and picked without much loss to wildlife.
The Apples (bagged), Pears and Plums are hanging in there.
Blue Berries look like they will produce small quantities all summer.
Thimble Berries had no fruit (yet?)but a spreading.
Raspberries are spreading but only have a few flowers and berries. Maybe a fall harvest.
The Seaberry is beautiful and bushy but non-fruiting this year.
Other plants: Ligon Berry, Cranberry, Beach Plum and Boysenberry are planted but tiny.
The Hidatsa Garden is flourishing. Tassles on red corn and squash is blooming. Beans are enduring leaf eaters but also blooming and starting to climb. Paper and mulch surrounds the plants.
Earthen wall is the driest area but the squash seems to be doing ok with minimal soaker hose action.
Take care and STOP BY!
