Making Personal Change

Permaculture can be very depressing in the start. But it is the cure to a status quo. There are so many issues and changes to be made. We have to move slowly and act in micro-tasks, breaking up the day, activities and spaces. Focus on a daily regime and change it until you have acclimated to the change and its a habit. Look at the bathroom , what can you do there. Make new defaults and opt for them without decision. Defualt to eco-friendly diners that are around, if you need to eat out. "Noodles" uses real dinner plates and silverware. Other places I have mentioned before have intolerable volumes of plastic.

Never use bags from a store, that is a an example of a new default. We have to say no thanks and deal with our own forgetfulness until it is a habit to bring bags and containers with us. I have a cooler in the trunk for groceries that is so much easier to bring in after shopping. It has wheels!  I can pack those so tight, I don't have to worry about the weight or tearing. Another new default. No cold drinks from stores or restaurants, only water. We have many little soft coolers in the kitchen that are easily filled with food and drinks for a car trip or work day. I used to let my kids drink all the pop they wanted for dinner as long as they drank the big glass of milk first. Never an issue.

A friend of mine I work with hated when I would send him on an errand. That is when he would smoke. His car was the trigger. Look for the triggers that cause us to waste or misuse resources.  Plan to avoid or mute them.

Access is the key. Make things easy for yourself to do. Make healthy action convenient. We are the edge of change modeling a new way of thinking for those unsure of what to do.

The hope from the change clears our minds and when we see and meet others doing the same thing, it brings it to light.
