Winter Carrots Continue

The attempt to extend the harvest season from 2011 has been blessed with a friendly winter.  Broccoli continues to be harvested from potted plants from last year's garden and the carrots are now 4 months in the winter ground.  Carrots were the understory of the broccoli and when that was pulled, the unharvested plants gained fall sun. Many are side by side and when pulled leave good holes for a little compost inoculation. One key hole bed is empty and the others half picked.

In the final crop relay, the carrots are a good bet for winter produce along with any other root or tuber. Once the final crop is pulled, there is not need to till. The compost filled holes are ready for the next seed. I bought some Daikon radish at the store. That will be a must do next this season.  Another great root crop for soil storage and they are huge.
