and PROJECT MANAGEMENT

In the permaculture designer certification you found our landscape is filled with possibilities. Our lands already have all the ecological services we need to flourish and sustain an abundant lifestyle for growing our food, collecting fresh water for drinking and reducing your dependence on purchased resources.
This advanced design course unlocks the ecological capital that abounds within our yards, fields, and forests. It will give you the understanding, skills and foresight needed to assess, conceive and design your property into a perpetual harvest garden. Learn ecological landscape design language and technique while using the Permaculture design process to create an ecologically balanced residence and abundant lifestyle.
Pre-requisite: *PDC Certificate or advanced experience and instructor approval.
Study living forest gardens and landscape design techniques. Topics covered in the course will insure a life changing experience and enhance your skills for ecological design. Discover the sustainable solutions are specific to your site and enhance the ecological services.


The Schedule: 9AM Start, Noon Lunch, 6PM End
Day 1   12 Noon, Review of the Permaculture concepts
Design methodologies in future tense
Homestead Design I: Review Site Assessments & Begin Base Plan (UD1)
Base plans, plat maps, satellite maps, scaling and map measurements
Whole systems thinking, multifunctional, self repairing, and dynamic
Ecological design for increased natural capital
Drafting and drawing tools

Day 2   Homestead Design II: Permaculture Concepts for the Sustained Homestead (UD2) 
Observation exercises, Bubble diagrams,
Site assessment with supplied site assessment workbook and tool kits
The scale of permanence, sector analysis, niche analysis, patch dynamics, and the zone system,

needs, products and behaviors as templates for designdatabases, etc and Internet resources

Design drivers, goal setting, envisioning the needs and wants of the client

Day 3   Homestead Design III: The Design Progression  (UD3) 
Recognizing and following natural patterns
Drawing practice and landscape symbols
Draft design (hand-drawing)
Day 4  Pike Lake Design site assessment and design charrette.
Day 5   Homestead Design IV: Concept and Draft Design Workshop (UD4)
Plant databases, building

Polyculture plant system design in gardens, edible forests, and perennial landscapesV: Final Design and Supervised Work Session (UD5)

Day 6   Homestead Design
Planting Systems, Food Forests, Plant List Assembly, BioControls and Natural Habitat
Day 7  Group Critiques, Concept evaluation, Wholesale Nursery Field Trip, Rework Designs, Private Consultations, Evaluations, Graduation, Farewells
 
Registration
Pay by check or cash and we supply all design tools for your coursework (see below).
When:  Noon Sunday through noon the next Saturday

Classes are limited to 12 people. Register Early.

Required Materials List:T-square 36”, Drafting tape,  Triangles: 45-90 degree & 30-60 degree,  Scissors Compass, Drafting pencils – HB, B, 2H, 4H,  8 Scale Ruler, Large and Small circle templates, Tube for carrying drawings, 8-scale graph paper; sheet size 24” x 36” (approx. 4 sheets), 24'x36' vellum paper , 2 sheets Bum Wad paper, Glue stick or double-stick tape, Eraser, Black ink pens – minimum of 3 tips: narrow, medium, bold  (Rent all tools for $35.00 or free with cash or check registration).
Lodging:  Camping is available on-site. Off-site lodging is available nearby.
Meals: A light breakfast and a daily lunch is provided. Dinner is arranged by the group or as individuals require.
