Deep Adaptation Sanctuary
This
concept has come to my mind from conversations with many people and my
own opportunity to create a community on my farm site. With a common
purpose and a common trajectory for the future I hope that this
experiment can help with developing practices and principles to be a
successful intentional community. As in the description above, the
discussion here will hopefully be about the human system
design as well as the ecological system design necessary. We are free
to discuss all the options, possibilities, and trials that maybe
involved; but within these conversations need to be solutions not just a
list of limitations. Focus on design drivers in principles and
practices that will help the community be a success.
Within our own local ecology, we can be stewards in managing our environment. As a species, we are to dysfunctional to be stewards of the planet. We were emancipated from the majority of nature long ago (Rudolph Stiener 1926). We can change the ecology around us and have replaced the wild native plants with our own food plants. We can manage and propagate animals as our livestock (prey). We make shelter, clothing, tools, and adapt in short order. It is our place to be humble caretakers rather than just takers.
I
am discussing details with this group. The focus being deep adaptation,
governance, and living systems. All the details as far as
qualifications, skills mix and contributions to the homestead.
Mapping out the concept (draft).
